Vaio Care Update 6.4.0.15030

Have attempted to install this update several times.  Each time receive the message 'Installation failed' and 'Please wait a while, then try again'.

Any assistance in overcoming this issue would be most welcome.

So 22 april and I see problem not solved. I just bought VPCF1 laptop and the first thing it says is do vaio update and burn back up discs. and as above failed on care so don't want to use computer till back ups done

spent way over 1300 pounds and I can't even get on with using it properly. Not impressed so far. spend more get less back up than ever.

1) Do I have to use DVD discs as upposed to using USB external harddrive

2) Will it back up complete image so that it will restore whole new clean system(once care fixed) I am used to using ghost acronnis for backup to partition etc

3)There is no win 7 prof disc or serial number to resinstall if I want. It says you can make one back up copy of Win7 on license but where do i find it and how do I do that?

4) Where is the win7proff  serial number and code to put in? I keep all these in my log book

5) Whats taking up all the drive space from new? - I noticed drive has 28 gigs used on it and i just got it out of box, I have win7 prof and no other progs eccept the basics that come with it which is not much and basic mic office cut down. My very old computer was 1.4 gigs with Win XP and adobe premiere and photoshop edit progs and many others on. Any ideas?

Any parts answered would be a help and an 0870 number to spend more sorting out their probs

Thanks

Hi mark1cam,

In answer to your questions:

1)      You can use DVD optical disks (not Blu-ray) or a USB flash drive to create the recovery media – Sony recommends DVD-R.

2)      No – it will produce media that will restore your machine to “as delivered”. All Windows and Sony updates will need to be downloaded and installed.

3)      Due to licensing agreements there is no retail Windows 7 disk supplied. Years ago Sony did supply an OEM copy of the recovery media but they (like most manufacturers) now require you to create your own. Have a look at your user manual for details on how to create a set of recovery disks.

ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/Manuals/RecoTS/2011Q1_TRG_EN.pdf

4)      You do not require a serial number.

5)      With the introduction of larger hard drives compressing data has been less of an issue for programmers and I am not surprised that you have already used 25GB. You could delete all but the most current restore point but this is unlikely to gain a great deal of space at this stage.

I'm still having problems with this!!! Despite having downloaded the latest patch, ie 6.4.1.05290, when I then run vaio care it tries to update itself to a newer version! When I check vaio update it informs me that version 6.3.09020 has initially downloaded succesfully, but then fails! When I check on the control panel which version of the programme I actually have installed it says 6.4.1.05290!

I've tried uninstalling, re-installing then updating vaio care many times, I've also tried the same with vaio update. Nothing seems to work.

Is anyone else still having issues with this, and does anyone have a solution?

Many thanks

I am also experiencing the same problems for a couple of months now but it seems Sony doesn't care. I am really disappointed in their customer service. They should care more about their clients.

Not sure if this will help everyone of you but...

Similar problems for me, couldn't do the automatic update from Vaio Care (very slow or not responding download). Tried downloading manually from Sonys website, but download was interrupted shortly after begining every time. Tried turning of my anti-virus software (Norton), but with no success. Eventually I noticed that the interrupt (when downloading manually) came from my browsers (IE9) SmartScreen filter. With this turned of I had no problems downloading (manually) and updating Vaio Care.

Hope this helps at least some of you out there.,..

Thanks Mukki_san.  I found exactly the same with IE8 on a VPCSB.   Could this be one of the reasons that Sony provide Google Chrome as default browser.

To reiterate:

To get Vaio Update to work and not keep timing out with 'Please wait a while, then try again' you should a least try disabling SmartScreen Filter in Internet Explorer.

To do this in IE8.  On the Menu bar click: Safety -> SmartScreen Filter -> Turn Off SmartScreen Filter

I would recommend turning it back on after you have updated.

I will contact Sony Support to see if they can add this to their testing scenario and also update support scripts to help out other affected users calling support.
