Have attempted to install this update several times. Each time receive the message 'Installation failed' and 'Please wait a while, then try again'.
Any assistance in overcoming this issue would be most welcome.
Thanks for the info mate. Please come back to this forum and tell us what was Vaio support solution in the end. Thanks again in advance.
I had the same problem trying to download the VAIO Care 6.4 using the the VAIO Update tool, unsuccessfully. Due to my stupidity I previously unistalled the Vaio Care 6.3 and Vaio Event service because the Sony support service states in the section Updates: 'Important: B4 installing this patch, make sure that VAIO Event Service version 5.12.03030 or higher is installed'. So I went to Control Panel\ Programs\ Programs and Features and I checked that the version of Event Service was older. The first step was to download the lates Event Service but when I tried to install it I could not becase it said that in order to install the newest you need to have the older.
I have always unstalled a program when installed the new version but this is not applicable to the VAIO world. I went to this web and in the originally installed section I downloaded the version of Event originally installed in my computer but in a bizarre Zip file. Then I installed a trial version of Winzip and when I could open it it was impossible to install it, I tried several times, unsuccessfully.
Asking to the new Sony Support Chat, that fortunatelly we have it, they first told me that I should use the recovery disk, thus, losing all the software installed previously. Then we tried to download the original VAIO Event Service using IE instead my default internet browser FF3.6., it did not work after several attemps. He adviced me on using the Windows Restoring System because they said that it will reinstall the uninstalled programs, the Care and Event but it did not. Only when I used the VAIO Recovery Center, it was possible to install the original VAIO CARE, version 5.0 and the old version ot the VAIO Event Service.
Another odd situation that occurred to me is that fiddling around the installation history of the VAIO Update tool I discovered that I've had already downloaded the latest version of the VAIO Event Service, the one required for VAIO Care 6.4 in Sep 10 but Windows Programs Features does show only the old version, even now.
I will wait untill the Sony software designers amend the problems with the VAIO Care 6.4 as the version that I have know is too basic compared to the one installed before the fiasco, 6.3, and that I cannot install again.
Lesson learnt...
The Sony support site and Vaio update simply doesn't work.
This is the first and LAST sony computer I'll ever get!

OK - Sony have confirmed to me that there is an issue and they will remove Vaio Care Update 6.4.0.15030 from website ASAP today.
A new VAIO Care patch version 6.4.1.x will be released as soon as it is available but the exact date is not known.
Thanks to everyone for reporting this issue so quickly.
hi 'blencogo' thanks for your post, l tried using official sony site giving sony vaio laptop VPCF11JOE details purchased in UK March 2010 but its not user friendly and seems to indicate that my 12 month warranty expired and l would have to pay for advice? Maybe l am jumping to wrong conclusion do SONY still give general advice for update and other problems l might have? Thanks!
Yes they do still offer advice but once you are out of warranty you have to use a premium rate telephone line - so you are paying more for the call than when still within warranty.
Thanks Blencogo for the information, I will wait for the new version.
Please use the brand new chat system and do not waste money. My F11 is from 1st Apr10 therefore out of warranty too but I was using the chat the other day. Another thing is whether the person answering you is well qualified or not but you will have the same problem using the phone or email. GOOD LUCK
Hi
This update still shows up in the list of automatic updates when I click on VAIO Update. I thought it was going to be pulled from the update servers.
thanks again for this info, very much appreciated
