Task Manager doesn't display properly.

Task Manager does not display properly.  When opened it does not show the normal window ie what programmes are running etc.  Instead  it shows a long list of everything, all programmes and devices and there is no toolbar at top so I have to clost it by pressing Alt F4.  Can anyone please help?

Hi Hamlet35,

I have replicated what you have described and indicated in the screen shots. I am pretty certain that you do not have a virus but are viewing in ‘Tiny Footprint’ mode.

Just in case my first post was not entirely clear please try double clicking on the first window at the position indicated on the attached screen shot.

If that again fails to work then try the following:

  1. Click Start, and then      click Run.
  2. Type taskmgr.exe.
  3. Hold down CTRL+ALT+SHIFT at      the same time, and while holding them down press ENTER.

Hi hamlet35,

Double left click any light grey area surrounding the Task Manager Window and normal view will be restored.

Hi Rich912

Sorry, that hasn't worked, I seem to be in Microsoft Management Console and can't get back to normal Task Manager view.

You have solved problems for me in the past, hope you can solve this one too.

All the best

Hi Hamlet35,

Can you let us know which version of Windows you are running and how you are attempting to launch Task Manager? It would also help if you could post a screen shot of what you see when the application is launched.

In the meantime try typing Taskmgr into the 'Start Search' dialogue box and then click on the result to launch it directly from the executable file. Does this display correctly?

Hi Rich912

I am running Vista and whichever way I open Task Manager the problem is still the same.  Tried your suggestion but no go.

Please tell me how to take and send a screen shot.

Thanks

Hi hamlet35,

To take a screen shot use ‘Snipping Tool’ which you should find via Start > All Programs > Accessories. Save the resulting file as a JPEG to a known location – Desktop would be a good choice.

To attach the image with your post click on the camera icon at the top of the reply box.

Hi Rich912

When I select Task Manager the first window opens then if I press "Services" button the second one opens.  It is very weird, I don't know how this has happened.  Thought I might have a virus, but scans check out ok.

Hi Rich

Clicking in the grey surround still didn't work but happily your last suggestion did and Task Manager is now back to normal.

I hope Sony appreciate you, I certainly do.  You deserve a medal.

Thanks again.

Hi Hamlet35,

You’re welcome.

I’m still puzzled as to why double clicking in the area indicated didn’t work but pleased to hear that the alternative solution did
