Hello everyone. How are you? I hope fine! I have this laptop and I think it has the standard problem with graphic card and overheating. My problem is that I have phoned the VAIO Support in Greece and it told me that I have to pay 125 Euros only for problem diagnose. And if the problem is in screen then I have to pay extra 140 Euros.
What should I do?
Thank you very much.

It is very difficult for us to advise you on this - you will have to make the decision yourself.
How sure are you that it is the nVidia problem? If you would like to list the symptoms of the problem for us we may be able to help. However, I would have expected Vaio Support to troubleshoot the problem and be able to decide if you have this problem.
I'm sure you understand that if the cause is the LCD screen, this will not be a free repair.
Sorry my mistake that I didn't list the symptoms.
First of all, in the screen showed up lines that change when the screen changed. To understand what I mean, when I start the pc in screen the lines fill the screen. When the Windows logon is coming that lines are changed to another lines and etc. But when is getting in the desktop the lines dissapears. And the laptop works normally.
Second, the system didn't recognised the graphic card. The laptop works normal, without graphic drivers. I have Windows 7 and in System Updates again the graphic drivers didn't showed up. I tried to install the drivers normally but when I install it I have one problem. When I start the laptop blue screen is the first thing that I saw. In safe mode (that drivers didn't work) it works normally.
Finally, I want to tell you that the laptop works normally for internet use.
Thank you for answering in my post. I hope you answer again!
P.S. I hope that the screen works perfect!
Anyone else ??
The symptoms you describe are not those of the usual nVidia problem.
Your Vaio appears to work normally once Windows has loaded and I don't think this would be the case if your nVidia chip has failed.
I see you have installed Windows 7 and your problem may be that some drivers have not been reinstalled. Have you tried reinstalling the original operating system (Vista) and seeing if your Vaio works normally again?
Sony do not provide a nVidia graphics driver for Windows 7 for your model so you will have to try Windows Update for the driver or look at this website: -
www.LaptoVideo2Go.com/drivers
I had installed the original Windows Vista and I had the same problem. When I installed the drivers the laptop got blue screen. I couldn't get into the desktop. The only chance to use the laptop if the drivers was installed is to choose the safe mode where the drivers turned off.
That's why I believe that the problem is the nVidia.
However, I have the problem of the overheating.
Thanks for answer.
