Vaio VGN-SR29VN freezes

My laptop has developed a problem over that last few days. After some time it stops responding and I have to restart. I have scanned it for virus and found nothing.

The operating system is windows Vista. recently there was windows updates. I note that the Vista security update had failed. I tried restoring the computer to a restore point before the failed updates. It completed. But the the laptop still freezes. Today I launched the Chkdsk. Half way through the process it stopped responding,

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem could be. Your help will be much appreciated. .

I have manged to update windows will all the outstanding updates. I am still experincing the problem of freezing.

Checked the system info for Drivers..

There are a number of Drivers with Error Control = "Critical", Start mode = "Disabled" and State = "Stopped".

Is this the reason for my problems? If so how do I restart these drivers?

Appreciate any help.
