My A317M, which is less than a month old, temperature as recorded by Mobilemeter usually runs between 57 and 60 degrees Celsius. this is mainly just web browsing with the processor speed at 800MHz.
It goes upto about 68-70 C on gaming with processor in 1.73MHz
it feels warm over left side of keyboard. and very hot on the base of the laptop. the fan loudens every 5mins for few seconds.
is this normal?? or should i be concerned??
thanks

Its OK, but not good, keeping the fans clean will improve performance.
wHAT WOULD BE A "GOOD" TEMPERATURE FOR SIMPLE USE (I.E. WHEN NOT GAMING)?....personally i thought it should be about 45 C....which is not far off from the temperature after booting up.
has anybody else checked their temps after a few hours of simple use?

Its a good tempreture, but knocking off 2-3 degrees would make it good.
Just being picky
my vaio running at 1.86GHz and temp 57-60C ( browsing web/normal usage, HDD 35C so its the same as yours..
Thats good for the hard disk Eugene
35-40 is normal for a HDD. At heavy usage, the temperature could go up to 45 degrees. Look at the Hitachi site. There you can find the max temperature of your HDD.
For the Hitachi 80GN it's 55 degrees.
Those new 120GB drives must get up to 55 too.
