Sony DRX 700UL DVD RW

Want to buy this external DVD writer ( does 8x single layer, 2.4x DL burning). It will be superceed soon by 710, which will allow 16X burn and 4x DL burn. Does anybody know if this drive will be flash upgradeable? Also, how does this drive compare to NEC and Pioneer drives - itd certainly more expensive!!

the DRU-700A is the same drive but internal i perfer internal although the external one's are sylish

I would buy the new one, it's going to probably have some sort of firmware in the future, but thats not garunteed.
