sigma tel audio codec

I have seen some posts descriving similar problems but nothing has work by now.

Can anybody help?

I have a VGN-SZ1M. I decided to install the new driver (the upgrade in the vaio support webpage) for the sound card (this sigma tel audio driver). So I followed the installation instructions (this was uninstalling Sigma Tel ...).

But when trying to install the new application (STDAUD-01108005-UN.exe), a message appears: Device could not be found.

I tried to reinstall the old drivers and utility but the same problem appeared. I don't know how to continue. Any ideas?

Hi asimetrich,

The pre-installed drivers for your model include a UAA High Definition Audio Class Driver. This needs to be installed prior to the Audio drivers – have you installed this?

You can install the Microsoft UAA High Definition Driver via Microsoft Windows Update site.

yes I've installed it. Everything seems to work properly but nor the upgrade neither the old version works. Always the same message, Device could not be found

I install it. When the installation is finished a message appears from the tray saying an error occured during the installation and the hardware won't work. The Audio device on High definition audio bus shows an icon of ! . Do you know where is the problem?

Thanks for replying

Solved.

I dont know why, but I have the Sigma-tel software folder in the desktop (uncompresed from the original drivers). I copied the files into the programs folder, in the Sigma tel folder, and reinstalled the UAA ... . After this, everything is working (????). So there was some problem (maybe coming from the windows installer???) and the software was not properly installed .

The only thing is that I am using the original drivers, and I would like to upgrade it since I have some unstability in the system caused by the sound card drivers. How can I proceed?

That's good news.

I wonder if when you downloaded the file, you chose RUN rather than SAVE. This would download it to your desktop and try to run it before the old driver was uninstalled.

If you feel brave I suppose it is worth installing it again. Copy the download to C:\Updates. Uninstall the present Sigma Tel driver in Add/Remove Programs, Re-boot, click cancel at the New Hardware Wizard and run the new Download from C:\Updates.

Thanks for the information. Just one question. Must the new installation file be in C:\Updates ? Do you know why?these things used to happen with old or poor-made softwares... so it is not what I was especting from Sony, after paying so much for this notebook!!!.

Not quite sure, but Sony do say that things may not function correctly unless you leave all your updates in C:\Updates and don't remove them.
