Matshita UJ870QJ ATA CD/DVD=RW RAM

Unable to get cd&dvd-rw to recognise blank discs. Tried -as some have- resetting the registry and everything microsoft can do to help, decided to re-install some original software- Click to Disc and Dvd Menu for Vaio plus some drivers. Done this from the recovery partition but with Click to Disc and Dvd Menu for Vaio an error message - code 39- keeps popping up. The software and drivers kept installing as if everything is okay. Anyone know what ''Error  39'' is, and why this is happening. The hard drive was re-formatted and everything re-installed from the Recovery Discs about two months ago due to a virus, although it was tricky getting the optical drive to read the Recovery Discs, which it's never had a problem with before. Very, very frustrating. It's a Vaio VGN-NR32S/S with Vista Home Premium. Praying somebody a lot more 'clued up' on computers can help.

Does it play prerecorded discs?

Go to Device Manager and expand DVD/CD-ROM Drives.

Is there a yellow ! warning against your drive?

Double-click on the drive and see if the Code 39 Error is shown.

If so a simple Registry fix is available and you should follow the process for a Code 19 error in this thread: -

No warnings or error codes. Did try removing upper and lower filters in registry. There only was lower ones so  removed it and re-booted pc but problem persists. Thank you for the advice anyway.

After spending a small fortune on different types of media from different manufacturers my notebook WILL read and write dvd's and cd's.BUT, it only so far reads and writes on Kodak CD-R and so far only using the Roxio software that came embeded with the notebook. It still won't read the original Recovery Discs (Verbatim DVD+R) using any software, neither does it read/write using Sony Recovery Centre to try and make new Recovery Discs. It also doesn't read/write using Windows Media Player or Windows Media Centre. It will read commercial CD's and DVD's. I now suspect it's either a lousy design or more likely it's Sony's way of stopping people copying and burning media that has their Digital Media Rights.  However I purchased this product and they-Sony- do NOT have any rights to alter MY property in any way and I will not give them any. I do now know that this company will happily 'rip-off '  people with faulty products- I have been researching this- so I would advise people just to 'not buy' any Sony products and go elsewhere. If they think I'm in the wrong here they can sue me, they already have done to others under their Digital Media Rights. If they do this and you have a piece of junk like I'm using counter-sue them for altering your property without permission. There are cases also against Lexmark for the same. They are acting no different from 'gangsters/extortionists and such.
