Hi all,
Proud new owner of a new Sz2xp/C here in the UK
After months of comtemplating, comparing, reading reviews and waiting for delivery... its here!
Well, like most people, I dont want the junk that Sony installs IE: the trials
OK, you can uninstall, but I believe always that installing/uninstalling leaves residue behind and I dont want that after spending 1400 on a laptop!
(the only downside I came to during comparison!)
So, I was about to create the backup recovery dvds just incase anything went wrong and I got this:-
An error occurred while writing to the disc.
“Close this program, restart your computer
The start the process again with a new disc.
I read a thread http://www.club-vaio.com/clubvaio/mvnforum/viewthread?thread=31782
But this does not help.
I've wasted:-
2x TDK DVD -Rs
2x HiSpace DVDs (+R)
2x Infiniti DVDs (-R)
2x Verb DVDs (-R)
All the above work perfectly with the PC and my former Sony FS series laptop.
Is this looking like a faulty DVD drive?
I've done what it wants... rebooted etc
Mostly. it stops between 4% to 6% however, on one of the infiniti disks, it went up to around 45% before it stopped with an "error" (not the same error as above) and said to restart the process (and not reboot)
Any help would greatly be appreciated
Only things I've tried is:-
tried different brands as above (although this day and age, I think it is outrageous if this is the issue!)
Have just re-imaged the drive using the recovery program so about to try again to copy
Always been on power during the process
and never been moved during process
Thank you
Interesting... as I was typing the above, I had Disk 2 on burn again... and it worked
But now Disk 1 failed on "checking"
I think the death toll is 10 so far for DVDs now
Maybe I should charge Sony a "flat fee" as they do on their repair site for the number I've lost
Nevermind, all done.
Carried on using the blue imation ones which finally worked
11 dead in total
Not impressed at all
Useless...
I should have checked Disk 2
While Disk 1 restored fine... Disk 2 did not... its infact BLANK!
The lines are there to say its got data but it could not detect "disk2"
put it in another machine and theres nothing on it... Nero says its blank
Take back your VAIO. The drive does not work. So it's faulty. Go for a replacement. Never try any stuff and burn your nerves about things like that, after buying new hardware.
If it's not work like it should, take it back. One of biggest rules in life.
