Battery not charging

I've just bought a new high capacity battery for my VGN-AR71ZU running win 7 but it wont charge, it says 'plugged in, not charging'. I know the battery and charger are all ok so it must be 7, has anyone else come across this issue?

I think it is very unlikely to be caused by Windows 7.

Does your old battery charge OK?

Did you buy the new battery from Sony?

Is the new battery fully charged?

Yes my old battery charges fine (just doesnt hold it very long anymore!) but no the new battery isn't genuine sony, it was @ 68% when it arrived but is now down to 55%.

There are often problems with non-genuine Vaio batteries.

It can be impossible to get them to work even though the vendors say they are 100% compatible. Sony say software checks all batteries and if they do not meet certain safety criteria, then they are prevented from working and possibly damaging your Vaio.

Have a look in Windows Task Manager. Do you have a process ISBMgr.exe running? This is the Integrated Sony Battery Manager. Stopping this process running at startup used to help on older Vaios but I am not sure if it will help you.

The battery checking utility on your model is installed by the utility program "Battery Checker 2.3".
This appears to install the ISB Utility.
See if this is installed by searching for the program.

Sorry, I don't know enough about your model.

It could be in C:\Program Files\Sony\ or it could be a Service.

The only other place I can think to look for the run instruction is in Task Scheduler. Open Task Scheduler fron the Search Box and look at the Scheculed Tasks in the bottom section of the screen. Anything there?
