Been trying to update myself from .45 to .55 but I'm having the same issue as himtik80.
None of the tricks mentioned work though. I've tried at least 7 times. Working on windows 8 and I've tried both usb2 and usb3 ports.
When trying to update with PC Companion, the software turns off the phone while 'checking the phone' phase. Then on the next step PC Companion instructs me to shut down the phone. Small contradiction here -.-
Hi,
I switched laptops and that helped.
you could try the same on a laptop where pcc is not installed
Thanks for the tip! Just tried on my work pc with windows 7, but the same problem still exists
I'm gonna try the factory reset route once I have more time. Will report back how it went.
I think these problem is related with the internal support of usb 3.0 ports for Windows 8, cause in windows 7 with the USB 2.0 or 3.0 works pretty well the upgrade of firmware.
I am telling these cause in other computers that i tried to connect with the volume button press these is what happen:
Windows 7 & USB 2.0 or 3.0: Works.
Windows 8 & USB 2.0: Works.
Windows 8 & USB 3.0: Doesnt Work.
(In the Xperia S)
But for what i have heard is that the new kernel 3.4.0, will solve the problem, cause my girlfriend mobile (Xperia T) works already with the 3rd option of W8 & USB3.
Turns out my laptop doesn't even have usb2 ports
Anyhow, I've got the update installed after doing a factory reset and then thru SUS on Windows 7 with usb2 port. So I'd say the correct answer belongs to LuCkEyBoY. Cheers!
New kernel means Jelly Bean, right?
Thank you jooso and glad to help you, yes the new kernel (3.4.0) it will be jelly bean versus the actual 3.0.8 (ICS).
I think that Sony must advise users to these problem cause some persons can think that is a problem from the mobile, and its not, i am saying these cause sometimes we have a nice mobile in hands and we are going to change it cause we think its a problem from USB Port and then we get a new one with other type of problem.
