com.android.phone error after ICS update, cannot handle calls

Hi all!

I updated my Xperia U to ICS a few days ago, and some serious problems with the phone function occured after a while:

- When I try to call someone, I got an error message: "com.android.phone process stopped", and when clicking OK, it drops the call, and also drops the network signal. Have to turn flight mode on-off to get signal again.

- When someone calls me, the phone rings, but instead of the incoming call screen, I get the same error as above. I cannot answer the incoming call. Clicking OK also kills network signal.

It is important, that after a clean install of reset, it is working just fine, but after some time - usually after the first reboot - the problems starts to occur at every call.

The error appears at literally every call, even if I try to call a number by manually dialling it.

In the past days, I've been surfing on the web for some kind of solution, but none of them worked for a long term, some of them were temporarily OK.

Some of the sources suggest that it may be related to syncing, but I couldn't solve it permanently.

I tried all of these:

- Factory resetting the phone - Temporarily working: it brings back the clean install state of 4.0.4, but it is only working until approx. the first reboot. Then the error comes.

- Repairing software with PC Companion - Temporarily working:  the same happens, I get a clean 4.0.4 install, working fine until the first restart.

- Disabling contact syncing, deleting all contacts on phone, to start phonebook from sratch: no effect, error stays.

- Settings > Application mgr > finding the Contacts app and erasing data: no effect, error stays

- The classic battery and SIM removing: no effect.

I am helpless, because until now, it seems that nobody experienced this problem with the same conditions. Others faced this error message between different circumstances. I could keep things up by not allowing phone to turn off ever, but I cannot use my cell in this kind of "fear", that if it eventually turns off some time, I will get the error, and must factory reset the phone again. i did it a dozen times in the past days, and it's killing me.

Anyone with same experiences?

This is a very odd experience. No one has reported this till now.If repairing vis PCC didnt help then try repairing via SUS.If this works then good.Other wise you will have to take the phone to the service center for repair.Hope this helps

Thanks, good idea! I thought that PCC and SUS are installing the same way, but now I did some reading around, and it turns out they differ.

I'll try it now, I will post the results Slightly_smiling_Face

Hi,

I gave it a try and reinstalled it with SUS on saturday, but I admit that I was afraid to make a restart until now

I just restarted the phone, and the phone call function seems to work flawlessly Slightly_smiling_Face

I must also mention that I deliberately disabled contact sync with google at all, because on other forums they said that it can also cause the problem.

I marked your answer as correct, because there is a 50% chance that SUS reinstalling would solve this by itself, but now I wanted to play safe Slightly_smiling_Face

Thank you for the help!
