cannot upgrade to 2.1. update failed.

After many attempts backing up, I have finally done so......But when  PC companion is 'preparing' to update..it doesn't. It says Installation Error...'unable to install or start phone software update componnets'. 'the update of software failed'. I have tried again, as suggested..but nothing..

HELP please...:)

forget about PC Companion, try Update Service

Hi Charl_23, if possible try with another PC/Laptop. Alternatively, you can update using SE Update Service, download from www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/softwaredownloads/detailed/updateservice/xperiax10?cc=gb&lc=en. If still unsuccessful, try updating in Safe mode (reboot PC/Laptop, keep tapping F8 until a Safe mode Menu appears, select Safe mode with Networking and run SE Update Service). Good luck.

if it comes to worse then use FlashTool to flash the firmware
