DAV-IS50

I have a 2008-vintage DAV-IS50 with play issues. For instance, if I insert a disc it will play but it won't allow me select anything from the menu and play that. I realise it's an old system but before I look for a modern replacement is there anything I can do to try and get it working again?

I'm keen to keep it if I can as it has a decent surround speaker set-up in place.

Did you try resetting the system to factory settings? I found the steps on page 99 of the Manual: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/res/manuals/3299/32995491M.pdf
