Hi Alex, welcome to the Sony Community 

Yes, unfortunately this sort of 'captcha' process on login is required to stop spammers and the like.

Recently it's become pretty annoying and takes a little longer than it should to recognise you as 'human'. We've reported it but apparently it takes a while to fix these things... sorry if you found it off-putting in any way.
