A tip for those who travel.

In case I leave my camera somewhere unattended I've marked it, both on the battery and/or on the back of the screen as on the SD card.

On the SD card as DSC00001.jpg in DCIM as well as in the root directory of the SD card as Address-of-owner.jpg.

Better safe than sorry.

those are some good tips right here.

As Mark Rober already tested a while ago - most people out there are honest and will return something to you if they have a way to contact you:

So it can't hurt to mark equipment with your name/adress/contact info.

For my phone for example I put a message on the lock-screen which also promises a 50€ award (around 10% of the current value of the phone) as well as postage. Though i hope I never lose it - as you already said - better safe than sorry.
