it restarted itself making a weired noise for like 5 secs. happened twice. has this happened to anyone with tv? was wondering what causes this and what can be done to stop it
thanks
@Win_88 My restart problems were fixed before the 6.0414 update. The "Simple IP" and "RS232C to off" sorted it for me. I may revert to my original settings in the future if I think I may gain from it and the 6.0414 allows me to do so.
Unfortunately following the previous 6.0384 I started to get a nasty horizontal screen flicker which happens once a minute. I was on the phone to Sony support this afternoon and they say they are aware of the issue and it will be fixed in a future software update but in the meantime they got me to turn off "Motionflow". Its early but this seems to have worked and as I told Sony, I am not going to permanently disable features that I've paid for, just because of their dodgy software. I'm trying to figure out how long to give them to sort it software wise before seeking a refund for an expensive TV which was bought just over 2 months ago.
I was also having problems with audio dropouts to my AV receiver but I read somewhere that selecting Dolby Digital rather than Dolby Digital plus, fixes this. Not ideal but so far it seems to work.
I thought I had fixed the restarting because it didn't happen for weeks, but since I hooked up an HDMI cable from my PC to my TV today my TV has crashed and rebooted twice.
@vendee I'm glad to hear the update helped that much. Disabling features isn't convenient, but at least a workaround exists until more fixes are released.
@Niverive Have you updated your TV and followed the steps here?
I heard that Sony are planning to release an update to sort this out. In the meantime, you can try the following steps reported to solve the issue by some users:
- Press the ‘Home’ button on the remote
- Navigate to ‘Settings’ on top of the page
- Navigate to ‘Network & Internet’
- Navigate to ‘Home network’
- Navigate to ‘IP control’
- Make sure that the 'Simple IP control' setting is set to 'ON'
- Press the ‘Home’ button on the remote
- Navigate to ‘Settings’ on top of the page
- Navigate to ‘Watching TV’
- Navigate to ‘External inputs’
- Navigate to ‘Advanced settings’
- Navigate to ‘RS232C control’
- Make sure that the setting is set to ‘OFF’

I've the XH9299 just one day and see the screen flicker about every minute too. This is very anoying. I just returned a new philips tv because of much edge bleeding and hoped Sony has more quality. For the rest this tv seems to be very good, no bleeding etc.
Is it sure the flashes are software related and will be solved?
"Is it sure the flashes are software related and will be solved?"
I think it is software related. For me it happened when watching digital TV, Playing back PVR recordings or watching BBC iPlayer. It never did it when streaming Youtube or Amazon video. It had better be solved or they can take the TV back. Its less than 3 months old and I'm not disabling features that I've paid for. I'll give them a few weeks.
Thanks for your answer. But if it's software related, then everybody should have this issue isn't it?
It's like a small flash in the middle (just below the middle) of the screen every minute or 2 minutes.
I don't like it to return a tv again so I hope it can be solved.
Did you have the problem after previous firmware or also before?
I'm not an electronics engineer or a TV expert. I don't know why everyone is not experiencing the same problem. I do know that the problem was not there when I bought the TV. It appeared after the first software update which was v6.0384. The flicker is exactly as you describe it. The reason I think it is software related is that it started after a software update and also if it was hardware related, it would happen when streaming from Amazon and Youtube.... but it does not. I emailed Sony support again couple of days ago, asking when the issue would be fixed and they have just replied:- "We do apologise for the unintended inconvenience, please note that there are no updates shared on your case yet. However, once updates are shared we will update you as soon as possible". So lets hope they sort it soon otherwise I will be returning the TV and I don't really want to do that.
Have you reported your problem to Sony support? The more people who report it, the quicker it will get fixed.
@vendeeI've reported to Sony in my own country, to be continued....
What I've found in Dutch at the moment (at my tv provider forum), we are not alone. More users have this problem and the given possible temporarily solutions are:
- Disable motion flow (no succes for everybody)
- Disable noise reduction
- Don't use standard settings but user settings, copy same settings as standard if you like
- Use Cinema settings
I didn't play with the settings and I'm not sure what setting will do the trick or which combination for now.
