Sound dropping out on my KD 43XF8796

The sound has started dropping out when playing the tv through my sony surround sound. It's on normal tv,Netflix etc but is fine when just played through tv speakers. Any ideas please because it's only just started doing it?

Hi there,

Can you let me know if you are using a Sound Bar or Receiver connected to your TV?

Best wishes,

Hi
I'm using a Sony surround sound amp. Been working fine through HDMI,stereo
turns on when tv is turned on,off when tv is turned off, volume up when tv
is turned up etc etc. Currys advised using a optical cable instead,£50
later I'm trying it now but the stereo is now completely seperate to tv!

I have a similer problem. My amps connected to my TV via the ARC HDMI. When watching TV, the sound occatioanlly drops for a less than a second. I have a good HDMI cable, but its 7.5m long, I assumed that was the problem. If your having a problem, maybe its something else.

How long is your HDMI cable?

Are you using HDMI?

Don't buy the optical currys recommended if you have 7.1 as it wont work.

Hi
I am running through a good quality HDMI cable which is also 2 mtr abd
plugged via the 'arc' HDMI. This time currys suggested using an optical
cable,£50 later it separated the amp from the TV so they didn't run in
conjunction with eachother. That's gone back and I'm back to original
problem.

Did you ever get this fixed?

I've just changed from an older Sony TV to a new KD-65AF8.

Both TV's connected to a decent Marantz amp to provide my surround sound.

Both the old and new TV are connected via HDMI ARC and the on-off functionality works generally well.

However, intermittently and on all sources (netflix, youtube, normal TV etc) I get a split second sound dropout.

It can happen once every 10 to 15 minutes sometimes, and sometimes not at all.

I have thought of changing the HDMI cable but wondered if you had found a solution??

Hi
In a work no. Currys advised an optical cable at £60 but its connected
differently,so lost any function linked to the amp. Swapped back to hdmi
arc and made sure the cables were definitely in properly. Still does it
occasionally but not as much. Sorry I couldn't give you a good outcome!

Hi Mchaggis69,

I assume that this problem only occurred after the latest update. If that's the case, Sony recommends that you apply the solution here: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/articles/00223423

Let us know if this solves it.

Apologies for not updating with the solution.

A new HDMI cable solved the problem completely.

Despite reading everywhere that these cables either work or they don't, in my case my existing cable (which wasn't a cheap imported knock off) was causing the sound dropouts. Since moving to a new cable the sound has been flawless.
