Sony KD-55S8505C Sky Q HDR

I have a Sony 4k 2015 TV KD-55S8505C running android 7.0 build SVP4KDTV15_EU-user 7.0 NRD91N.S44 5.457 - I believe this is the latest software version.

Using HDMI 2 - Enhanced Format (for HDR etc) and display HDR Video. If I use this together with my PS5 it's great however with my Sky Q in HDR10 the colours look over done - everyone looks like they have sunburn.

Is this a settings problem or doesn't HDR work that well between this TV and Sky Q.

thx

Have a look at your Sky Q settings....it maybe a problem with HDR 10...check your HDMI cable and make sure that is 2.0 or 2.1. Check TV settings when it's switches to HDMI...is that over saturated, in Vivid etc... I have had the exact same problem with my Xbox and I solved it with a setting in XBox and changing the HDMI socket on the TV...so swap HDMI sockets...something here should work! It's definitely a setting, socket or cable dont worry!!

Hi.

From my limited knowledge it's probably a TV settings issue.

I noticed this when I was toggling between the settings when I first got my 55XF9005.

If I play a HDR film on Sky the TV auto uses the HDR Video display but the picture is dull. I have tried changing the settings but it remains dull. On the other hand using the same settings on a none HDR program the colours look maxed out and unwatchable. Tried all combination of settings.

Have you toggled all HDR settings?

Have you checked the Sky forum for similar issues?

Sky are pretty much at the bottom for quality for streaming content. Are the shows you wish to view available on other streaming services, e.g. Netflix/BBC Iplayer/etc.? If the content is available on a native app on the Sony, then the quality of the broadcast will be much higher via the native app than what Sky offer for the same content. For example, Sky's BBC Iplayer doesn't support the BBC's UHD content, the one on the Sony does.

I had a good HDMI cable so never considered this to be the issue, however it was good in 2015 :-).

Just bought a new 2.1 cable, plugged it in to the TV / Sky Q box, played The Suicide Squad in UHD / HDR and the TV auto swapped to HDR Video - picture was perfect. Started to watch just a normal broadcast on Sky and the TV swapped to Standard mode - picture perfect.

Many thx for your help.

Ace, well done...yep HDMI has grown up since 2015!! I remember the first Sony HDMI cable I bought cost me £25!!! And yep that was only HDMI 1.0

Yea who would've thought!

But glad to know that it was something simple, like the HDMI cable.

Enjoy buddy.

Sky use the HLG format for their HDR and the UHD football always looks dark and dull on my Bravia XH95. I have tried changing settings but with little success so have now gone back to setting the Q box to 8 bit and the picture is perfect again. This leads me to believe that the Bravia struggles with HLG format. I have my Q box on HDMI 1 and have the HDR mode set to Auto for this input. The Dolby Vision HDR though using the native Netflix app is fantastic so can only assume the problem is with the Q box.
