Hello,
My sister in Romania has a Sony KD-49X8309C TV which, a couple of weeks ago, failed to switch on. This was purchased over three years ago and it is out of warranty. She took it to the local Sony Authorized Workshop and they told her that the main board has to be replaced. They have also mentioned that, according to the their official service manual, the Part No. for this board is: A-2072-550-A and the description is: COMPLE SVC (XF) BMFW CEI. A photo of this faulty board also shows the P/N: 1-894-595-12:
The workshop can provide a new main board but the cost is over half of the value of a new TV. I found one such board, used, on eBay; this has exactly the same P/N but it is advertised as being for a different TV model.
I did contact the workshop and ask them if this board would fit but they say that even if the P/N is the same, there might be differences in the firmware and a board targeted for the UK market could be incompatible with a one targeted for the Romanian marke.
Could anyone advise on this matter?
Many thanks!
HI Felippe,
We will check this and update you if we find more information.
In the meantime, maybe some of our members can advise you.
Best wishes,
Ed
Hi Felippe,
What the service centre told you about the differences sounds about right. I know that Sony wouldn't recommend self service for safety reasons (for the user and the TV). But I can't think of a valid alternative to having a Sony service centre repair the TV to guarantee the quality of the parts and workmanship.

Thank you both for your feedback.
Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my initial request; even if I purchase a used main board from a third party, I wouldn't install it myself - I would take this board to the Sony authorized workshop and they will have to replace it. All I need to know is that the board in the photo is compatible with my sister's TV set.
Regards,
Hi felippe_ro,
To be honest, I don't think this would be safe. Specially that her TV is bought from Romania. As the service centre said, there might be other differences that they may not be even aware of when dealing with TVs from the Romanian market.

so.. the TV has completely become defunct.. do not attempt to repair it? Bin it off.. get a new one! Nice one Sony, I will be looking at alternative brands for my new tv.
It's been a while since I replaced the faulty Sony TV. With the money I would've spent to repair the "just-out-of-warranty" Sony TV I bought a Hisense Could have not been happier.
Hey,
It looks like a mainboard replacement for me.. too much of a risk! how is the Hisense tv?! I am not buying Sony Android again! One less.. two less customers!
I bought from Argos the Hisense H50A6250UK; 4K HDR at under £300, my sister is really happy with it.
Perfect! I will do the same. Glad she is happy with the product
