I have a Sony Bravia KD-55XE9005 updated to Android 8.0. It is connected to the mains via an extension plug. The problem is that I cannot switch off the TV completely. Every time I press the power button on the remote the tv will switch off and then immediately restart. If I want to switch off the tv completely, I have to press the power off button on the extansion cord at the time between the TV swtiches off and restarts. Is there some way to resolve this issue? Thanks in advance.
Hi Joe,
This doesn't seem to work - the TV restarts even when clearing the cached data and switching off from the tv button.
Hi P.Andrew,
Try changing these settings:

Hi Joe,
The Simple IP control' was always on. As for the ‘RS232C control’ I don't have a ‘Watching TV’ option in my settings Menu.
A new software update was very recently released for your TV, give that a try and let us know if that fixes it for you.
Hi Joe,
Did the update to 9.0 but the problem still persists. Also, now there is a "Watching TV" menu but there are no Advanced Settings under the External Inputs option.
There may be a corrupt setting or system file. Try resetting it to the factory defaults (Settings - Device Preferences - Reset - Factory Data Reset).
Hi Joe,
I tried this two steps behind as you had suggested to no effect; would it make any sense to repeat this? Also the restart problem has persisted both factory resets and any update I have done from Android 7 (as it was shipped) till now with the Android 9 version.
I was specifically mentioning that since you just updated the TV, but you have a point there. Have you tried checking RS232C control after the update? It's related to the Pie Menu (possibly 2020 models only, not 100% sure) and I incorrectly referenced that earlier :S
Hi Joe,
Sorry, I saw that someone else had suggested the Factory reset, not you. So I first did the factory reset and then applied the two consecutive firmware updates. I don't seem to have an RS232C control option.
This might be a little basic, but have you tried disconnecting everything from the back of the TV, unplugging it for 2-3 mins, then try to use just the TV with nothing connected and see if it still restarts?
