Hi,
I have a 2014 vintage Bravia 4k TV (model 49X8505B). Its native app for YouTube has never displayed 4k content correctly and displays 1080p instead. I understand that is a known issue because of the way that YouTube encodes 4k content. I also believe that's been fixed in later Bravias.
I am thinking of getting a Fire TV 4k stick. Does if anyone know whether the Bravia will display 4k content correctly if I use the YouTube app on the Fire TV stick instead? I have asked the same question on the Fire TV forum but no one seems to know.
Many thanks in advance for any assistance!

You should not have any issue since it supports HDCP 2.2 and 4K resolution at 60Hz https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/articles/00061278 . Of course you won't be able to watch any HDR content since it was not supported at the time.

Hi @talkingcats Why don’t simply buy one from Amazon and then send it back for a full refund if it doesn’t work.
Thank you so much. That is really helpful
And that is what I would have done if no one here could have helped me. I prefer to do the research first so that I feel comfortable that it ought to work rather than just depending on UK distance selling regulations to be able to return it!
