Hi all,
I am thinking of buying a KD-50X85k tv to replace my 6 year old KD-49X803 but need to know if the problems experienced with the KD-49X803 and YOUVIEW have been addressed
1. No hdd recording ,no satellite reception ,when YOUVIEW is active
2. no ITV hub , all4 when YOUVIEW is deactvated
I have managed for 6 years with youview deactvated and Humax box for catchup but do not want to spend £749 for another Sony if the problems still pesist.
any advice would very much appreciated
Hi @nodrog47 You would be better off buying a new modern Freesat Recording box (4K for future proofing) and leave the TV to do what it does best, act as a TV.
hi sonyuser30yrs.
I have been buying and using sony for over 50 years started with 6" b&w tv in late 60,s since then had several camcorders tv,s radio,s latest wh1-1000m4 headphones and latest is sony soundbar. and mostly have been very satisfied.......
But I do not think the smart TV over last 7 years do anything for Sony,s reputation ,surely a company the size of Sony can programme the software of their TV to sort out the Youview problem of having to disable youview to use record function or view channels on sat tuner then re enable and retune youview to view catchup channels,
Not very smart Sony! go to back off class.
These tv,s are not cheap and if everthing works easily for most people why should you have to by a set top box to play what is already on the Sony TV.
Did have a Humax FVP-5000t box just to play ITV hub and more 4 just over 1 year old and now virtually obsolete as ITV hub is not supported on that now,
all that extra cost becuase sony/youview crap system
looks like next TV will be Samsung or LG
Hi @nodrog47
I can't answer all your questions as I have Sky Q which is obviously better than any make of TV for recording up to 6 programmes simultaneously (not enough at times!) with UHD HDR sport etc. (A95K) and I can continue watching where I left off on my bedroom TV (X89J).
However I can confirm that both my A95K and X89J are happy recording to HDD (A95K set up but never used) and all the iPlayers (BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All4 and My5) work with YouView (now marketed as Live TV & Catchup) disabled. So there is no need for Live TV & Catchup and I personally prefer the native Sony TV Guide.
If you prefer to go for a LG or Samsung then go for it. It is not something I would do, the A95K is truly fantastic. Mind you I would never go for a Sony value TV like a X85K for my main TV.
Note my user name sonyuser30yrs was true in 2012 when I joined this customer community. It really should be sonyuser40yrs now!
All the best with your LG or Samsung, a change is always good 😀
