Hi I wonder if Sony will issue any more updates for th KD-48A9. It was still on sale last year, however seems to be stuck on Android 9, when the most recent release is 12. It has not had a security update for over year now.
Hi @ccarmock Obviously nobody here knows the inner workings of Sony, but my guess is you are stuck with Android 9. Sony’s latest Android TV OS version is 10, called Google TV. The latest security patch was July 2022.
Yes I assume any update to andoid woudl move this TV onto the Google TV as opposed to Andoid TV platform, though the difference seems minimal. It would give it more longevity.
What i find surprising is that there hasn't been a security update - the most recent software for this TV has a security patch level of July 2021, so a year earlier. From what I see Andoid 9 is no longer receiving security updates, so a TV that is less than 2 years old is currently in a vulnerable state unless Sony decide to take it to Android 10 or later.
Hi got the same tv in July last year, no updates as yet.
Bought THIS ONE DUE TO other Sony STOPPED SUPPORTING IPLAYER.
TOLD IT WAS TO OLD ONLY 5 YEARS.
MAY BE NEXT ONE WILL BE A OTHER MAKE.

Thats right - that is the version my TV is running. It is based on Android 9 (No more security updates from Google on Android 9), and quotes it's latest security level to be July 2021
Not sure if they're planning to release it or not! With 2 generations of Android 10 TVs and we're heading towards the 3rd, it seems unlikely with every passing day.
It does look less likely an Android update will come to this TV (that was still on sale in 2021 just one year ago)
I did open a Sony support case to ask and they confirmed updates have not ceased for this model so it will receive software updates. That, of coure, doesn't imply an update to a later Android version.
Though I saw security updates have ceased for Android 9.
Keeping this very capable TV on Android 9 when it was on sale just one year ago seems crazy
