Does this receiver go into an input on the TV? In which case, you tune the channels there, and likewise choose there which one you want to watch, and don’t use any TV tuning at all.
If you want to tune the channels on the TV, you will need an aerial or cable connection to the tv, in which case the receiver won’t come into it.
If you need more assistance, I suggest you contact the Sony dealer you bought it from.
My favourite bedtime reading is a Sony product manual…
