Atmos via Disney+ and Catch-Up apps on XR-55A90J

Can somebody at Sony please confirm when we will have access to the UK catch-up TV services?

I want a date, not some wishy washy answer.

And what is going on with the Disney+ app and the lack of Atmos?

I'm getting sick of the blame game having contacted Disney, Sony and Google.

I assumed Disney, being the vendor of the app, would be responsible and have an explanation but, they insist it is down to Sony's hardware limitations, which seems unlikely given Netflix will do Atmos. And Google are clueless.

If I don't get answers, this damn TV is going back. Utterly fed up with the poor support, generic responses, the total reliance on reality creation to ensure the picture looks good and the lack of basic features on a premium priced TV.

It is outrageous.

Are Sony represented on this forum and respond or is it community based and supported by owners please?

The second one is correct. Sometimes someone inside the Sony organization will answer directly but official answer are only the ones given by calling the support

The current official response (on Twitter, email, over the phone, etc) is that the agreements between Sony and the service providers are the reason for the delay but the TVs do support it. No ETA shared as of yet though.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for your replies @rooobb and @Joe_Dohn

I've contacted both Sony and BBC Media Technologies re iPlayer since my original post as the Euros have now started and games available on the BBC are also available in HLG HDR via iPlayer.

Only I can't access iPlayer and both organisations are blaming the other for the lack of representation on my TV that cost thousands.

And Sony completely failed to mention Disney+ in response to my initial contact email. They've asked me via a generic response to supply the serial number of the TV (understandable), as well as the IP address, my ISP and lots of other things to do with the internet (not understandable) that are not related to the lack of object-based surround sound.

Grrr, frustrating.

FWIW - I have a new KE55-A8 Bravia and I have watched the Wales-Switzerland match and part of the Denmark-Finland match via iPlayer in UHD. Is this issue specific to your model TV then? My model uses Android TV as its base OS and I get iPlayer fine via Live TV & Catch Up.

@ksaro1 Thanks for your reply.

The UK TV catch-up services were all advertised along the A90J prior to launch, when most owners placed their pre-orders, only to be notified by Sony at launch they wouldn't be available until later in 2021.

I've since contacted Sony and BBC, both blame each other and iPlayer, the only one I care about, is still unavailable.

Poor show from Sony. My TV costs thousands and I can't access iPlayer.

If yesterday taught us anything, there's nothing more important than life and living it.

So, very grateful today to watch at all (via Sky Q), even if it isn't in HLG HDR... get well soon Eriksen.

HEY SONY

WHY ARE YOU DELETING EMAILS WITHOUT READING THEM?!

I am damn angry. I contacted Sony support with regard the lack of catch-up apps, as well as no Atmos availability from Disney+.

I received a generic email response, suggesting I can reply to the same email and you've deleted my reply, TWICE, without reading it.

Somebody from Sony better acknowledge this message or the damn TV that cost over two and half grand goes back and I'll buy an LG G1.

HOW DARE YOU!

This is a user-driven forum, if you want to talk to an official Sony rep, you're better off reaching out over the phone or chat if email isn't helpful.

That said, he response has not really changed much, there's still no ETA and the only ever time I saw a date was "2021".

Hope this helps!

Just got my XR-83A90j,  and pretty well same issues no BBC/ITV Hub catch apps

And Disney totally buggy when it comes to Atmos.

It seems something on Sony side as when I use external stream device that works (always did),  but had some issues with eARC when the Sony connected via external AMP and streamer,  that disabled ATMOS on Disney on the external device when connected to the Sony A90j.

I spoke to my dealer,  seems its all well known now at Sony and update is in process,  would be nice if Sony would formally confirm both issues are fixed?

There is no Atmos available via Disney+ on Android/Google TVs, full stop. It isn't buggy, it's just not available.

The lack of UK catch-up TV services is down to a legal dispute between the vendors and Google. They are due 'sometime in 2021' but, I wouldn't hold your breath.

Don't be fobbed off with any information to the contrary, especially from Sony.
