Android 8.0 Oreo/ 9.0 Pie

Is it OK to expect Android Oreo on 2017 Sony Android TVs?

I've got the same model but the 49" version. I've never experienced the connectivity issue, that you mentioned before. It seems that this is not model related, simply just bad luck. Obviously, I understand your concern. It is just unacceptable that they refused to fix your TV, since it was their software, which killed your device...

Regarding the new update, so far it looks like my soundbar works again, except 1 movie, which was working totally fine with Kodi.

I've got the KD-65XD7505.

After upgrading to Oreo in February, the main problem I faced was the known i.e the problematic cooperation between TV and AV receiver (Yamaha). Futhermore, DTS was not playing at all, causing the loss of sound in any application even in TV programs.

Today I upgraded to v6.6510, which seems to work right for me concerning this particular problem.

However, since I did a factory reset before and after upgrading, when I tried to import my TV channels list  from Sony Channel Editor, I noticed that the relevant choise is not selectable anymore.

Anyway the new FW is under detailed scrutiny in the next days

@Jecht_SinI'm fully aware of the issues with Oreo that are not limited to Yamaha receiver (indeed my own Sony HCT350 has the same problem worked around with an optical cable). But no issue at all with volume commands (that is related to CEC not ARC anyway)

Hopefully this will help..

And yes, I know  HDMI-CEC and HDMI-ARC are not related. But the HDMI-CEC was half broken as well  (hopefuly with today's update is fixed). Along far too many things in the OS of these televisions.

Still, even with the last update, if I have YouTube playing a video and I turn on the Apple TV, the AVR switches but the TV usually stays stuck on YouTube. I have to keep pushing the Apple TV's home button to get the TV recognizing that the ATV is active.

@Jecht_Sin I never thought you were making false claim, it is really strange the bar shown jumping, but as per the Apple tv CEC is a two way communication never really implemented as a true standard and both parties could cause a problem. Moreover it is not unlikely that a third device could cause problem to the other two (i.e. it could be a problem with ATV that cause a miscommand on the protocol between the TV and AVR (even if I'm sure you already tried disconnecting everything apart the two)

It is unlikely too IMHO that Sony will make too much effort on that since, like any other maker, clearly states that they guarantee the interoperability between devices using Braviasync not CEC (the same is for anynet, vieralink and so on so forth).

For ATV like I think someone else stated I would bet more on Apple to fix it than on Sony

@rooobb Oh, please! The video has been made with the Apple TV off. And I had that issue with the  volume bar long before buying either the AVR or the ATV. I have been complaining for years about the volume bar. Now it is fixed with the TV operating in stand-alone.

Actually, if I use the ATV, with the ATV remote the volume changes perfectly. Not so using the Sony remote while connected to the ATV. Now, turning the AVR off (using the HDMI bypass) and with ATV on... Crap. All went banana. I have just reset the whole AVR configuration (because I never did it before and so I gave it a chance the AVr was misconfigured), but no. That's not the case. Now with the AVR off and HDMI passthrough on in the AVR, I can't control the TV volume anymore.

I'll reboot everything. And once it works I'll forget about it. I wasted days hopelessly trying to make this TV working.

Just to clarify that, Apple TV is an always-on device. It is even on when the LED is off. You have to physically unplug it.

I'm fuming.  TV is still dead, constantly boot looping when connected to a network, 4 months of it effectivly being usless.  I had to buy a Fire stick just to be able to watch stuff which is frankly ridiculous for a £1500 TV.

Hello,

After updating my Sony "smart" TV, KD-75XF9005, with last Firmware update v6.6510 I have no sound at all through ARC connection to Onkyo TX-NR686 receiver.

Before this update I had the known issue with ARC of no sound trough ARC after standby but restarting the TV "solved the problem"(until the next standby). Now I have no sound at all no matter what (tried several times restarting the TV and Factory Data Reset).

Any suggestion?

Thanks,

Hello!

On one of the forums about Sony's TV some XF9005 users complain of a significant decrease of brightness in all modes (menu, content usual and HDR) after upgrading to 6.6510, which is not compensated by the settings. Does anyone have a similar?

I can confirm the drop in brightness. But only for menus it seems. Not for video. Turning down the backlight for LCD is probably supposed to mitigate the visibility of clouding when displaying menus as these are seemingly not locally dimmed.

HDR and Dolby Vision have been quite dark before the update already. Nothing changed there. Some shows like Sabrina on Netflix are still hardly watchable at daytime. There is a desperate need for HDR / Dolby Vision Bright picture modes on older models as well.

I actually bought LCD because I hoped those to be better daylight performers compared to OLED. Now everything is so damn dark that you have to close the blinds around the TV during daytime.
