I am trying to play from the camera to the TV (Samsung) via HDMI.

When I connect the camera, a separate HDMI source opens on the tv which indicates that the device is recognised. But I do not get any picture or sound when replaying videos or pictures. I do have the correct cable!

Any ideas? Is there anything in the output settings I forgot?

normaly you should get directly a picture on tv if you plug in the cable a Blackscreen could be a Problem with HDCP Protection, alltough the cam does not have one maybe the tv have settings enabled for HDCP, so go into your TV settings and try to dissable all settings with HDCP or copy Protection

another issue could be a flexed micro HDMI Port, this *****ty ports are realy fragile things,  sou you can wobble with the cable a little bit to determine any issues with the port

Do not buy any of these cheapo 5 Dollar Cables buy a better one with HDCP support gold plated and ethernet

try another tv to ensure its not a Problem with the tv 

when connecting go into the video mode

Thanks for the extensive explanation.

Unfortunately, the camara itself seems to be the problem. Went to Sony
to have it checked out by them, it didn't work.

Looks like the connections within the camera are faulty. All I can do
now is either not use the HDMI port or have it repaired.

theres an alternative

you can use the wifi live function and connect a android tv box or smartphone to the tv and use the wireless function from the a77II
