VPCL21S1E wired network connection unplugged

I have had my VPCL21S1E for 3 weeks and for the first time I tried to use a wired connection to my router instead of wifi but the network adapter says 'cable unplugged'  I have proved that the cable is OK by plugging it into another PC.  And I have ensured that I have the latest driver for the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. I have all the windows and vaio updates.
Anyone help ?  Faulty network adapter ?  I am currently waiting for Sony to call me after emailing support.

Hi cligray22,

Have you checked that the Local Area Connection is enabled? Although, in theory, it should show as disabled it is worth checking.

Control panel > Network Connections > Manage Network Connections. Right click and select enable if disabled. This is for vista and Win 7 may vary...
