VGN-FZ21S Overheating

Hey all, so my friend hs a vgn-fz21s with a core2duo t5700 all was ok with it until about 3 weeks ago, since then he's started to notice a massive difference in temperature, coretemp is measuring an average of 85c at idle and the temps just go up from there. The top left side of the casing is incredibly hot to the touch and depending on the kind of usage it eventually hits tjmax and shuts down.

anyway just wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue or perhaps someone could offer some suggestions as to what may be causing this problem, i mean to me it appears the fan has stopped spinning up, i'm just wondering what could have caused this and what if any solution could be applied...

thanks in advance!

The FZ-Series packed a lot of powerful components into a slim frame and always did operate close to the limit. Consequently, any clogging of the vents and ducts to the fan - or problems with the fan itself - can often push it over that limit.

You can try dislodging dust and debris using compressed air but more usually, you would have to take it apart for a full spring clean.  It is surprising how much dust accumilates over a few years.
