VGN-C2Z with very odd boot issues

I got the strangest of issues I came across this. And I would like to know if anyone who had this particular issue could confirm if that is the case with my Vaio too.

http://genesis.sony-europe.com/instranet/ccil_sony/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=53420&l=en_GB&m=VGN-...

"Distorted video, random characters or blank screen issues due to failure of the NVIDIA graphics chip"

Which sounds exactly what my problem is. But my model is not in the list! (which is 2nd time now I have a popular issue that is not supported for my model, whats wrong with Vaio European support...)

So that's where you nice people just might come in handy. If someone who had that particular issue could confirm for me I would be super happy!

This is what happens:

When I boot I get !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! symbols covering the entire screen during some sessions of the booting. Bios and any other interface during boot also have symbols swapped for random ones, making it VERY hard to read. Prior to that I got blank screens when the nvidia drivers failed to respond.

The worst part is that eventually the computer failed to boot windows entirely. A full format would solve the issue. But only for a few times. Then I had to format again! Hiberate actually does work fine, although not really a solution:)

Please let me know.

Thanks!

I would suggest you contact Sony Support as your model may be included in the list of affected models.

  • Firstly, this webpage usually only shows on the support pages of the affected models.
  • Secondly the list shows VGN-C1Zx twice - perhaps the second model should be your VGN-C2Zx

I would contact Vaio Support (Mon to Fri) by going here: -

http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/index.aspx?l=en_GB&m=0

and  entering your model to sign in and then click on 'Get in Touch' ->  'click here for further contact options' -> enter your Vaio's  serial  number -> telephone the out of warranty phone number.

EDIT:  It appears in this list - so your model is on the list!!!

Applicable Models

•    VGN-FZ11x, VGN-FZ18x, VGN-FZ21x, VGN-FZ31x, VGN-FZ38x
•    VGN-AR11x, VGN-AR21x, VGN-AR31x
•    VGN-C1Zx, VGN-C2Zx
