Vaio Vista & Codecs

Hi everyone

I have a problem from the very first day with my Vaio FE41S with Vista

Out of the box or after a reformatting and reinstalling, with only Divx 6 (6.4 - 6.5 - 6.6 - 6.6.1) installed I can play my divx and xvid movies with no problem.

Then after no better specified operations (sometimes after installing some no-matter-with-codecs-software, sometimes using click to dvd, sometimes upgrading with windows update, sometimes upgrading with vaio update and so on... (I have reformatting almost 8 times!!)) the divx won't play no more in media player and media center. I can play it with divx player, but only if no other codecs are requred like AC3, because when I Install AC3 codec the divx player won't recognize the audio stream (only the video)
VLC player instead play the audio stream but not the video stream (even in non AC3 files) and media player won't recognize neither video nor audio. System says that no codec was installed but IS NOT TRUE. I have installed (even separately) Divx, Xvid, FFDShow, Shikishaki (or whatever it's called) codecs.

Other issues are that even Click to DVD and Premiere gives me problems, sometimes they even won't start (I have found a CTRL-ALT-don't remember what procedure to unlock Premiere that sometimes makes it run, but not everytime!)

Gspot says me that codecs are NOT installed but another time IS NOT TRUE!!!

Then suddenly (without any acceptable reason why) yesterday evening Media player has played my divx, everything was OK, it shows me the usual "Codec request - Codec acquired" and I have seen my divx. But then a message from divx shows me an update from Divx 6.6 to 6.6.1

silly of me: I have updated! and then NO MORE DIVX!!! NOOOOOO!!!

Seems to me that something is blocking codecs control and use. But what??? Googling has given no results because Media Player gives error COD1199 that is normal "codec not present" and everyone gives me some more codec to install! I have a notebook filled with codecs!!

I think this is a Vista bug or Vaio incompatibility.
No other has my problem?

PLEASE HELP ME! I CAN'T FIGURE OUT NO MORE!

Damn' the day I decided to buy a notebook with Vista!!!!

thanks

Hi there

This is very strange

I recently had a problem where suddenly vlc, media player classic and windows media player stopped playing certain files.

I must admit I didn't go looking for the cause of the problem, but I installed the
Vista Codec Package

and that seemed to fix the problem with the players.

I had major codec problems with Vista - stretched or squashed/not playing at all etc...

There are major compatability problems with some codecs and Vista. There is however a Vista specific codec pack...

Vista Codecs

They've been upgraded from the V436 I used without problem to V445 but hopefully that hasn't introduced any bugs. I would only install what you need though. Uninstall any codecs you already have installed as they may still cause incompatabilities and only install what you need. I prefer Video Inspector to GSpot as has a handy entry on the context menu when you right click on a file. I only installed XVID and AC3 and didn't need any more. It will also allow you to use Windows DVD Maker to burn XVID/DIVX files to DVD!

Hope that helps

I don't believe it! I spent over half an hour on this post and Jumpsuit sneaks in and beats me to it! I really should speed myself up. There's a TV program I like called Never Mind The Fullstops and now all my posts have to be perfect and it takes me ages as I never really paid that much attention in English lessons at school (or any other subject for that matter).

the problem is the same again.

no playback and error C00D1199

maybe the only solution is downgrade to xp!!

signs of redemption for this world!

I have figure out something

VLC player that formerly won't play my divx correctly (it was freeze on first frame but with correct sound) has decided to play correctly when I switch to openGL mode in the quick settings: DirectX mode and Direct3D mode (neither accelerated nor not accelerated settings) won't work.

So maybe it's a problem with DirectX 10

I found this thing, now I need help for next step.

Try doing all the updates first, make a restore point then install DivX.
