Hey people,
I have a question that might sound pretty easy, but I just can't figure it out:
I recently bought an AR11S and I want to use the S-Video input (or the AV input, doesn't matter, but I prefer S-Video). I just want to display the signal on the screen, preferably without delay, but I have no clue how to do it.
I tried around with VLC which got me near the solution but stil the image is black.
Strange thing is, in VLC i can change the configuration of the capture device, and I change it to PAL-G (which would be the signal type my recording device - a camera - is sending), but whenever I come back to the configuration menu it is changed back to NTSC.
Anyone got a solution?
Thanks in advance,
Michael
Hi Michael,
Realtime processing of video like that isn't easy to do, and usually requires high end equipment that costs in the 1000's. Sadly, the VAIO doesn't do it, as you say VLC is the closest I've seen to getting there.
Hi Kee-Lo,
thank you for your answer!
I'm just wondering what the S-Video and AV inputs are for if you have to buy other equipment anyway.
I managed to get some picture (but not moving, dunno why) on VLC, and I got another movie player which could actually show what the camera was sending, but it had kind of "noise" in the picture (vertical lines of not-moving picture elements which disappear after some time) ... So I think VLC's problem is that it captures one picture and holds it, and the other player's problem (don't remember the name at the moment, sorry) is the noise ... That makes me think the port itself is alright, I just need another player, does anyone know an application to just open a video device and show its signal?
So to re-arrange my question: How can I use the S-Video input or AV input an ANY way?
Michael
Hi,
Usually the S-Video is used to capture from older camcorders, but most people don't need real-time processing.
You should be able to watch/capture in VAIO-Zone
Hi Kee-Lo,
Yeah I thought about VAIO Zone, I read about it in the forums, some french guy said you need to configure VAIO Zone first, and call me an idiot but I can't find VAIO Zone on my notebook. Is it pre-installed on VGN-AR11S machines? Is there a similiar program?
Thank you,
Michael
It should be preinstalled as it's got the dock.
