I wonder if anyone can help me here, I have a S5XP laptop however after installing the new drivers from nvidia my brightness controls no longer work. When I press FN then F5 or F6 I see the little icon then shows the brightness however it wont change.
Nor will it change in power management if I select 1 - 9 it doesnt change the brightness at all..
Any ideas please?

Hi Mr_DoughBoy,
If you re-install the Sony Nvidia drivers does this restore the brightness controls...

Hi, If I reinstall the original drivers that come with my laptop it works fine and I can change the brightness however the problem is that if I use Sony's drivers I get a blue screen of death and cannot play any games.
I tried 87.25 drivers but this removes the function that allows me to change the brightness. Is there anything that I can do to make it work?
Its most annoying since I want to play games when Im at home however when Im using my laptop at college I need to turn down the brightness as it eats up my battery fast.

Does Nvidia not also have a downloadable software package for changing settings, including brightness?
They have a thing called smartdimmer that you can enable I think but it doesnt seem I can change it via the FN key anymore and also i dunno how to enabe it
I am sure it won't work with the Fn keys but the Nvidia driver and software should enable you to change the brightness to your preference.
There are two choices really either use the Sony driver and get a blue screen or use the Nvidia driver and play games.
Hi Mr_DoughBoy,
As William said it will have to be either one or the other..:smileysad:
You could install the Sony Nvidia drivers when going to college and revert to the Nvidia driver when you wish to play games...:smileywink:
Possible ideas:
NVSZ.inf in the original sony driver package has some references to screen brightness. Possibly try to copy this .inf information into the new .inf. A solution that would probably work would be to copy the code below into the mobile_tweaks section of the modified inf available at laptopvideo2go
;Smart Dimmer Controls
HKR,, EnableBrightnessControl, %REG_DWORD%, 1
HKR,, PanelPWMFrequency, %REG_DWORD%, 200
HKR,, PanelBrightnessLimits, %REG_DWORD%, 0x0000FF32
I'm gonna try this now - good luck people!
The best place to go for the most up-to-date drivers is:

Only install sony drivers as other drivers will not allow the brightness controls to work!
