Hi I have the AR11M and was wondering if anybody knows a way to disable the optical out connection without affecting the laptop's normal functions. This is because the red optical light is always on and would probably be killing the battery that much more so disabling could get a better battery time. Does anybody know if this is possible or if it will make a difference to the discharge time of the battery?
The optical out will only consume a tiny amount of power. If you still want to disable it then check in the advanced section of the volume control settings and see if it can be disabled there. (I've only got my Samsung here but that's where the setting is on that)
Start -> Control Panel -> Sound Reality Audio -> Advanced
Uncheck 'Enable Digital Output'.
You must have a Vaio handy
Yes Rob - one of the rare ones that has run for two years without a glitch.

blencogo thanks for the steps but the red optical light is still on after uncheck the box? any other suggestions? do you have to reboot the system for it to take affect?
Hi Dekesh,
I don't really know!!!!
Can't find it as a seperate device in Device Manager - so it can't be disabled there either.
