I have a PCV-V1 which receives analogue TV just fine. But without a scart socket on the pc, I am at a loss how to connect a digital TV set top box? Can it be done, or am I restricted to the five terrestrial channels?
You need an S-video to Scart lead.
Small point but I'm sure Kee-Lo means Scart to S-Video (It makes a difference) for example there is a suitable cable at this site
Exact same question came up a few weeks ago, my advice then was go look at the Nebula Electronics DigiTV USB unit.
Nebula DigiTV
The guy who posted did and bought the box.

does the v1 not have rca video inputs then? i have the w1 and it has yellow/red/white av inputs so i just go scart from freeview to rca on the vaio, there is an s video input but then you have to sort out the sound (too many leads), scart to rca, one lead does it all..
Both the V1 & W1 have composite video in, s-video in, & Stereo audio in sockets. A USB device isn't needed & yes you can use the composite & audio sockets if you prefer although the s-video connection will give a better picture (the lead I noted in my previous post is a single lead with audio & s-video connections).
Yeah S-Video gives better pictures.

Thanks to Kee Lo and Rob Paxton fo advice (Unfortunately, I did waste a tenner on a S-video to scart - before sending off to TV cables for the correct wire).
HOWEVER - I can only obtain a perfect black and white picture through my freeview box - for all channels. I have checked both the box and the signal using a standard TV in place of the Vaio - that provides perfect colour - so not the signal or the box. I have also tried adjusting the picture quality settings through Giga Pocket.
Has anyone any suggestionsas to why this might be happening? Any solutions or further checks?
