Sony Bravia TV EPG "no event information" on freesat

Sony Bravia TV EPG "no event information" on freesat

Hi guys

Been trying to contact Sony via their web email support. the page endlessly loops on trying to send, no matter on what broswer i use. 😕 so here i am...

anyway

I have a Sony bravia TV KDL-42W805A.

I have recently cancelled my Sky package. so have been using the builtin freeview (aerial) for TV, which is all working fine.

However, i have decided to remove the freeview aerial and use the built in freesat tuner with existing Sky dish.

I can get over 800 channels with freesat. and the signal quality/strength is at the max. no issues there.

The issue im having is:

the EPG does not populate with information. all i get is "no event information". it will only appear once i view a channel. but im not flickering through 800 channels just to get the information to load

Because this don't load, it make the EPG completely useless

What am i doing wrong?

PS. the TV is not connected to the internet (yet) but has latest firmware update i think.

  • Recently my Sony Freesat has begin to update. There was a kernal software update in August, which didn't seem to make much difference, but I recently done a few cold restarts as my wifi wouldn't connect after a power cut. ( resetting the router solved it). Shortly after this the Freesat started adding program information  beyond now/next, and after a few days it was fully populated. I checked today,  still populated and topping up to 7days as well. I wonder has some change being made to the standard defined epg data channel, which I read was controlled and encrypted by Sky, meaning epg delivery by Freesat required a proprietary solution in software for every set. I hope it lasts.

@Deezell

What model of Sony TV?

And what country are you in, as you are not showing a UK flag?

My favourite bedtime reading is a Sony product manual…

Location is Ireland, bur TV would be set to UK to invoke the Freesat Tuner. It was unusable as it took a full disable and then retune of Freesat to get a full EPG (eventually after a while), which populated for 7 days, and then diminished a day at a time until it was blank, with some now/next. TV is a KD-55XH9005

Today's EPG on HD Genre. First 2 channels are local terrestrial.

An oddity I've noticed is whichever regional BBC1 you've selected by dint of your postcode entry during scan, it's prime listing at 101  struggles to populate past 2 days, but scroll down to it's alternate listing in the 950s-969s and it has a full 7 day to Midnight Mon 4th, 8 days really. E.g. BBC ONE NI HD on 101 and 966, they're the same channel and tuning frequency, but when 966 is allocated the first Freesat slot at 101, it's EPG is slow to populate fully.

BBC regional Mon 4th Nov. This is 'No Programme Information' after 2 days in 101.

@Deezell The information on the EPG is related to the channel provider and not the TV settings, and it might also be related to the signal strength. I'd say try to tune the channels without the sat cable and once again with the sat cable connected and see if that changes anything!

I've no problems anymore, EPG populates for 7+ days, albeit some channels, mostly BBC, will not repopulate daily until you use the Freesat EPG for a time, but I'm no longer looking at a completely blank EPG like it used to be. The quirk with the 101 BBC ONE region dependent entry persists, but actually selecting it for a while gets it back. Happy days after three years of frustration.
