I finally figured it out.
So far I have been using the PCC on my laptop (which was provided by my company). It seems that a new security policy has been applied on the company laptops which restrict access with mass storage devices via USB.
I installed the PCC on my computer at home and then performed the backup successfully this time.
Sounds strange. Have you tried uncheck some categories and just for example try backing up contacts?
I have the same problem, i have tried everything to backup my contacts and call logs and it just gives me the same error. i tried with just contacts only and nothing happens, i get the error message adn then the whole window is closed.
Is there any other suggestion?
I am still facing the issue.

Use super backup - it's a lot better and can be set to back up to external USB device using OTG cable
