Using Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive with BDV-N590

I have a problem playing video files from my NAS. I know the files are OK because they will play from a USB stick attached directly to the unit. The player reports that there are no playable files.

I have the files in an unsecured folder on the drive and it is DLNA enabled. I have recently reset all settings and re-formatted the drive.

I don't know if the problem is the Sony unit, the NAS or my router

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Hi there

Unfortunately it "might" be the files.  Can I point you to page 52 of the manual : HERE  - it says in the notes that certain files are not playable via DLNA

Cheers

Thanks for shedding some light - so it looks like avi or nothing then.

Is DLNA my only option for watching files on an external hard drive?

Hi there

Have you tried using a program called Homestream on your PC or laptop?  As this may over-come your problem.  See HERE for more details.
