my two-cents on this topic:
NEVER click on ANY link in an email asking you to verify your account details or log-in to avoid your account to be deactivated!
Always navigate to the page of the service yourself, log in there and verify for yourself, whether there are any actions needed for your account.

don't see any way any advantage to have an account

the advantage is, that you can register your products which also ties in with the warranty as the purchase date can be logged this way.
