Hello. We purchased Sony Bravia tv Dec 2018. We haven't had use of the remote control facility for over a year.
Having undergone suggestions and checks, we believe the issue is with the receiver on the monitor not the remote.
We spent best part of a year using the remote close to monitor. But the last 6 months it has stopped working. Voice command only worked.
We are using remote apps on our mobiles which is not ideal! We don't want to replace the TV... its working! But the remote control facility does not!
Read a post where someone replaced something in receiver. Whilst I don't think water would have entered as would not have placed liquids near it, we don't know how to fix it! We are on verge on getting a new TV and will avoid Sony! So frustrated!
Help much appreciated.
For info. Have done factory reset. Unplugged everything etc. Works for few minutes then doesn't! Very frustrating. Thanks
Have you tried new batteries in the remote?
And/or looked at the business end of the remote through a phone camera, while pressing a few remote buttons, see if you can see the flickering that should be visible?
The TV was bought in December 2018, it is now 4 years and one month old.
Have you checked to see if your TV is still under warranty.
If you bought the TV from John Lewis you get a 5 year warranty, Richer Sounds is 6 years.
Please check with the seller of your TV what guarantee they offered at time of purchase.
Do all the usual checks, new batteries in remote control, make sure there is a clear path to the
remote sensor on the TV, give it a clean.
Do you have another Sony TV in the house, if you do then try that TVs remote wither the problem TV.
If you don't have another Sony TV in the house do you know someone with another Sony TV, if so
you could try using your remote with their TV or their remote with your TV. As the remotes for different
Sony TVs will differ slightly you may not get full functionality between the TVs and remotes but simple
functions like Volume and Channel Up and Down should work and Power On and Off.
In your first post you do say that you have undergone suggestions and checks, it would be helpful to know what these were as this may stop replies asking you do try things that you have already done.
Many thanks for your responses. To confirm:
Bought at Curry's so will look re guarantee/warranty (not checked yet)
Tests performed.
Changed batteries
Unplugged every lead that was hooked to monitor; switched tv off etc
Took batteries out of remote; pressed every key twice; new batteries
Only Voice control works from remote
The camera test shows a purple/white light from remote when pressing buttons
The receiver is not obstructed - the monitor is wall mounted
Previously - I have undergone above procedures (on multiple occasions):
I could get the remote to work from a further distance "the sofa - for a short period"; but within an hour I could only use it at close proximity to the receiver again; within 12 inches or so
The remote had been working at close proximity for a while, but by now - it won't work at all; and having undergone the above procedures - it won't work with the monitor at all - not even at close proximity
We haven't got another Sony remote in the house; but have bought other replacement remotes and again none work.
I will try find guarantee from Curry's in the meantime.
As mentioned we have been using a mobile app to act as remote control; which is not ideal
Hello, many thanks for your response - just realized I've posted a response to another response that includes answers to your questions (in thread). To confirm; yes changed batteries; pressed all keys twice and done the camera test on multiple occasions. It did help initially but now all failed! Thank you for taking time to respond.
It does sound as if the problem is with the TV itself and the unit receiving the remote signal.
Looking at the Curry's website and Sony TVs on first glance most say they have a 5 year guarantee.
Whether your TV was offered with a 5 year guarantee back in 2018 is unknown, you will need
to find your purchase details.
Hoping it is covered and you can get it repaired.
If you want to replace the TV IR sensor, check this link to locate a Sony service centre near you.
Many thanks for your response.
Many thanks for your response; will attempt to contact Sony to replace an IR Sensor. Do you know if its something we could replace ourselves?
