Is it possible to have 2 simultaneous recordings taking place on the XR055A80J?
I have dual tuners, with both plugged in and working. I have connected and prepared a hard drive, and can record one channel at a time whilst watching another. However, if I try to record 2 channels at the same time, without watching either, one fails.
I ran the TV's built-in performance checker on the hard drive, and it says that performance means some features may not be available but not which ones nor why.

Ok, thanks.
Another related question: when a recording is taking place, I can't open any of the new catch up apps (iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, etc). A message appears to say they cannot be accessed whilst recording. Other apps, e.g. Prime, Disney, Apple TV will work whilst recording. Is that to be expected? Anyone know why?
I am not in UK so I don't have any experience on them, I can only guess that those catch-up apps rely in any case on the tuner even if they can access content on-demand
They definitely don't rely on the tuner. The apps are also available on Android, iOS, Apple TV, Mac and Windows devices, and they just stream content like other catch up apps. I wonder if anyone else from the UK has found the same thing?
Yes, the catch up apps do not work while a recording (digital or Freesat) is in progress. I suspect that it has something to do with the Youview implementation. Another reason to avoid Sony TVs in the future.
Hey,
The dual tuner is made so that you can record a channel, while watching another channel, not recording 2 channels, or 2 programs at the same time, also no, you can view the Catch up apps while recording as it's all part of the YouView services.
Cheers.
It's the first time I've had a dual-tuner device that can only record one programme at a time. It's like going back to the 1990s! I'm surprised Sony doesn't explain anywhere that it designed it for single programme recording only.
I don't quite follow the bit about recording whilst using catch up apps not being possible because of YouView. I don't use YouView, and it is not enabled on my TV. In any case, other YouView devices can record whilst using a catch up app, so this appears to be entirely a Sony decision.
To be honest, not quite sure about that!
You could get in touch with their support to confirm or deny that, and leave us the feedback, maybe it will also help others!
I have contacted Sony for support, but so far it's just been silence. If I hear back I'll sure to post here.
