KD55AF8 Firmware update to v6.7140 Reboots from Standby

Hi there,

I recently updated to Firmware v6.7140 and now when I switch the TV on from Standby it occasionally reboots.  I have factory reset the TV but the problem is still there.  Is this a known bug? Is there a resolution to this issue?

Thanks

Have you tried clearing the cached data (Device Preferences - Storage - Internal Shared Storage - Cached data) then restarting the TV by holding power?

Hi,

my Sony KD-65XF9005 has exactly the same issue after update to V6.7140 (Android 9 Pie)

After switching my TV to on from standby it also occasionally reboots.

That issue is really annoying. I already tried the advice of clearing the cache and performing a factory reset. Both workarounds did not solve the issue for my KD-65XF9005.

Within the Sony Forum here I've seen threads from other people who had exactly the same error with older Android Oreo Firmware, too.

Any advice from Sony would be really appreciated.

Basically I like my TV but if there is no solution in time, I would sadly have to return it and get my money back. Firmware update braking functionality of TV is a no go.

Hello,

Yes, tried that and it didn't work 😞 Getting very annoying now as it is rebooting most of the time.

Is this a bug with the firmware or a hardware issue?

Thanks

Dear Sony,

The GitHub boards for Android TV are alive with all the posts over the broken CEC HDMI issues on the Pie implementation on the X1Extreme Chipset.  Firmware 6.71401 has broken this function and causes no end of issues for people with multiple devices attached to their TV's. In summary:

1) CEC-HDMI broken - no CEC HDMI attached device can turn off the TV anymore - So Apple TV remote cannot turn off the TV as it is supposed to.  All worked fine until the latest firmware

2) Random reboots. - looks like the androidTV kernel has a panic and causes a reboot.... at least every other session of watching the TV, this happens

This is a known issue - Sony Engineers in the US have acknowledged this, so when is the updated firmware fix coming out ?

And please lets not go around the... well try resetting your TV first, then reset your AppleTV....  This has all been tried, and does not resolve the issues.

Please respond by providing a planned fix date so that we can get our TV back rather than having to fight with it every day.

Hello,

Do you have a link for the GitHub boards for Sony Android TV?

Thanks

Hi there,

The links are here:

Loads more links as well but I don’t have time to post them all here.  A Sony Engineer RomeoP I think has acknowledged that
Sony US managed to replicate the issue and a fix was supposed to be forthcoming, but we are now in February and there is still no sign of an update.

Any assistant you can offer is much appreciated.

Hi sukmudha7 , try a factory reset, it worked with other users.

Yes it is a bug.  I have done a full factory reset and still the TV will reset and the HDMI CEC integration doesn't work properly.  The Sony remote will control other devices but does't listen to other HDMI devices also participating and linked by the CEC standard to Bravia Sync.

Why isn't Sony or a technical person from Sony answering on this board ?  Is there another way to register a bug more formally ?

Hello,

As a workaround, I have disabled CEC in my Nvidia Shield to NOT switch the TV on.  This has seems to have stopped the rebooting, but I now have to use the Sony remote to switch the TV on.  Defeats the point of HDMI CEC Integration 😞
