I have an HT-XF9000 connected via optical cable to a Sony KD-65XG8096. Pressing the HOME button on the sound bar remote doesn't bring up the home screen on the TV. I've tried disconnecting the optical cable and using HDMI instead but that produces no sound at all.

For audio on ARC follow the recommendation
This could solve also the problem of the onscreen menu not appearing. Just in case try also to reset the soundbar
Press and hold (power) and –(volume) on the main unit for more than 5 seconds.
The settings return to their initial status.
By resetting, the link with the subwoofer may be lost. In this case, perform “Performing the Wireless Connection of
the Subwoofer (SECURE LINK)” (page 25).

and how did yo expect a video signal to come up on the tv via an audio connection? In order to have the audio working via HDMIARC be sure to follow the tv instruction https://helpguide.sony.net/tv/gaep1/v1/it/04-04_01.html as well as the soundbar ones
I tried with HDMI but I couldn't get any sound at all and no home screen on the TV.

Hi @Peejay1951
I believe that you will only get the Home displayed on the TV screen by using HDMI. The real question is why are you not getting any sound using the HDMI connection.
Would you please explain in detail all your connections and what source are you expecting sound from? For example HT-XF9000 HDMI OUT to TV HDMI 3 ARC. HT-XF9000 input set to TV so sound from Digital TV is played via HT-XF9000.
Note Bravia Sync Control must on On on the TV and Control for HDMI must be On on the HT-XF9000.
I have an HDMI cable from HDMI OUT on the sound bar to HDMI ARC on the TV. I also have the optical cable connected. Pressing the HOME button on the sound bar remote cuts off the sound but there's no HOME page on the TV. Because I can't get to the HOME screen, I can't change the sound bar settings.
Hi @Peejay1951 The optical cable is not required at all. Please confirm that you have Bravia Sync and Control for HDMI on. Also press ACTION on your TV remote and ensure Speakers are set to Audio system.
Both those settings are as you say. Disconnecting the optical cable cuts off the sound and still no HOME screen. Thanks for your help, but I'll just have to live with it. It's not as if I've got bad sound!
