Any way to completely disable Youview?

Any way to completely disable Youview?

Is there any way to completely disable Youview so that the apps that rely on Youview to function disappear from the featured apps list? Having those apps in that list has caused no end of confusion in our household with missed recordings and broken satellite ability. I'm wondering if going through the initial setup but telling it I'm in Ireland would do it (though I'm guessing that would cause other complications).

Also picture of the apps view from the apps button

The catch up apps are the sideloaded versions so don't re activate youview

However there is still a risk someone else in your household will scroll down to sony select and use the youview linked version of the app in the row, but makes it much less likely

Thank you for your reply.

I'm only assuming that Sony does not have full use of YV because you cannot bring up past TV guides on YV to facilitate use of the players, BBC, ITV etc which as far as I know you can do if you have a separate YV box.

Sounds like you have a better understanding of this than I do, all I know is that when ever YV is enabled wether it's on my AF9 or older X9005 models, problems of stability arise which do not occur when it's disabled.

The only reason I buy Sony is for the picture quality, but it is frustrating that these problems continue.

Yes, over on the YouView Community I am a Superuser, and I evaluated YouView on these Sony Android sets at first launch. So I do know some stuff, but very little that isn’t freely publicly available (which I’m not about to divulge any of anyway) and I have no experience of Sony Android TVs from 2016-2020. But YouView hasn’t changed much in the interim....

While there are certainly things that YouView on these Sony Android TVs can’t do, the backwards EPG is certainly one that they can; so if you can’t get this, you have an issue somewhere.

Like the boxes though, you do need the TV to be connected to the internet, and to have at least tuned in the Over The Air Freeview terrestrial channels at some point in the past, even if you don’t actually have a terrestrial TV aerial connected right now, which is preferable.

So, do you fulfil these criteria? If not, fulfil them and try again.

If then you still can’t get the backwards EPG in the YouView UI by scrolling back day by day from the current date on the EPG; and/or can’t play any of the past programmes marked with the forward arrow in a little circle with a little break at about “8 o’clock”, which shows that this programme is available on one of the Players, by just clicking on it; then you are certainly not getting the full YouView experience available on these Sony Android TVs:-

But if the process above fails for you, where precisely does it fail?

Please let us know. (Though, as ever with these sets, you might want to just try a Factory Reset first, and see if the missing functionality returns).

My favourite bedtime reading is a Sony product manual…

Hi All,

I completely agree with what @royabrown2 suggested and his/her train of through here. If you still face issues using the basic guide and catch up functionality, where exactly does it fail? Do you get any error messages?

Might the reason I am not able to watch UHD streams on BBC iPlayer on my KD-43XH8505 be the presence of YouView??.

All 4k content on Youtube/Netflix/Prime/Disney+ loads and plays absolutely fine. I have a 68Mbps internet connection via a Homeplug system and ethernet cable into the TV. When I try the UHD stream of "His Dark Materials" all I get is a rotating loading circle and/or a blank screen . (I received an onscreen prompt last night when it was being broadcast to watch in UHD)

It shouldn't matter as the BBC app works with youview on and off.  Maybe try to reset the iplayer cache in settings menu

My XG9505 has been updated to the latest firmware 6.4960 which so far seems to have sorted out audio dropouts from apps and recorded content on hdd. However i also have this iplayer issue not playing UHD content. Before the firmware update it was fine. I have carried out factory reset, still not working. I thought that the iplayer app was independent to the youview app or at least it would work without the youview app enabled, it does not. If youview is disabled then iplayer will stick on the loading screen and show no content, once youview is enabled iplayer works fine except for UHD content.

You can reset Youview by going to Settings - Apps - YVServiceHost - Clear cache and data
