Could anyone tell me what is the normal CPU temperature for Vaio? I just download the Mobilemeter and said the temperature is 68c and the HDD#O (what is that??)is 47c.

For 68c is it too hot? Fun keep running hard all the time:smileycry:

As already said above, this temperature sems to be on the high side a bit but still okay.

Do you keep running processor-intensive tasks? Check your task manager under Windows, at how much % is your processor running?

Another thing I´d do is click Start - right-click on My Computer - Properties and check the processor speed when the computer is idling. Is it always at the maximun? If so, try using the "Portable/Laptop" energy scheme under Control Panel - Energy Options.

Hope that helps.....

I also take your advice and change the power engry to portable/laptop but its keep jump back to the power suite sccheme setting and wonder why is that:smileysad:

Hi gsweetieuk,

As Kee-Lo correctly points out your model does indeed use a desktop processor that is designed to run at a much lower temperature than a notebook processor. 68c is far too high for your model and you are no doubt experiencing a slowing down of the system due to passive cooling kicking in at that temperature.

I suggest that you initially try clearing/cleaning the cooling vents with compressed air (you will find several links for the process on this forum). If that has no effect then it may be necessary to disassemble the notebook to carry out a thorough clean. If you are uncomfortable with this procedure then maybe a local PC repair company will be able to assist.

Just as a reference.
I have GRT815M and of course the fans never stop, but...

Recently I have opened it and cleaned the dust that was accessible from what one can see under the keyboard and now when the computer is idle the the CPU temperature is 45c (dropped from 47c before cleaning) - the temperature in the room is between 22 and 24 degree Celsius - about 40% humidity - (this is not a joke - it matters). Under heavy load the temperature goes up to 69c-70c and stays there. The HDD temp. is usually 35c and goes up to 39-40c under heavy I/O load. I get the same numbers under Windows XP and Linux.

P.S. Consider 45c as record - I have never had this temp. since I bough it.

There is one more under the hard disk.
More excellent snapshots from disassembled VAIO on the author's web page
http://www.sundigi.com/article/product/testpage.asp?ga_id=1032
http://www.sundigi.com/article/product/testpage.asp?ga_id=1035

You don't have to remove too much to reach the two fans on the picture. There is one screw on the left side that holds the black part over the keyboard (the one with the speakers). Release that, then slide left the black part - then you will be almost able to reach the second fan as well. There is one more screw in the middle that will be accessible when you remove the first (black) part, that holds the keyboard. If you unscrew that you have to just lift the keyboard - nothing to disconnect. This will be enough to clean those two fans perfectly. The one bellow the HDD -since you "know" where it is now - just air spray it through the holes from aside.

Hint: If you decide not to open the laptop use the air duster while the computer is running and spray from beneath - in the inlet AND AGAINST - through the outlet. You might have something stuck that can not go through the radiator! Blowing against the air flow will probably help to clean the main fan. Usually this is enough. If you have GRT (well, you have GRT815M exactly as mine) you may try blowing through the opening just above the printer (LPT/parallel) port - there is the outlet from the second fan.
