topic Dust *inside* screen? in PCs & Accessories

Hi All,

I have a VGN-S3XP which I bought when the model first came out. It is in daily use and is a fantastic machine.

Yesterday I noticed a "black dash" has appeared at the bottom of the display, at a height coincident with the top of the XP taskbar. It's very much like the ` character, but twice the length. It has the impression of appearing slightly behind the image forming plane of the screen, so I suspect this is dust between the light source and the pixel plane (can anything else cause this effect? I assume a dead pixel appears *in* the plane of the image).

The machine is out of warranty, and in all honesty, I can live with the mark. However, do I risk more damage being caused to the display if it is left there? I don't imagine there are any solutions other than return-to-base.

I'd be grateful for any advice.

Thanks,

Nigel
