Hiya, I'm a fairly new sz Vaio owner and have managed to make my vaio think it isn't a vaio???

it had been working fine (apart from not being able to shutdown without holding down the power off button) and it had been switched off for a few hours. On switching on a message came up with

STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure}
The registry cannot load the hive (file):
\SystemRoot\System32\Config\SOFTWARE
or its log or alternate.
It is corrupt, absent or not writable.

Begining dump of physical memory
Physical dump complete.
Contact your system adminstrator etc...

Not being able to find the recovery discs we put in a windows disc and it booted fine and is working ok (we think) however, now none of the 'fn' buttons on the keyboard work (e.g. volume) and if you try and use the vaio recovery tool it says it isn't a vaio.

what have i done? will it ever be a vaio again? oh no.
