I have the same problem on my VGN-S3 and S4. I tried 5 different brands of dvd dl and it's does not work anymore ....
I really disappointed by the quality of the matshita drive....
I bought and external usb dvd burner because i really needed something to burn dvd dl. Now even when i put a CD in the drive it seems like a plane at the take off
